Mottl House by Adrez — a snowy, storybook stay in Prague

Fresh snow on the Charles Bridge, no crowds at the castle, and a boutique hotel that feels like a secret hideaway in the Old Town.

Prague in February is a city of muffled footsteps and glowing streetlamps. We arrived late on a Thursday as snow began to fall, and by morning the Old Town roofs were thick with white. Mottl House by Adrez sits on a quiet lane minutes from the Astronomical Clock, but the hush inside makes it feel miles away.

The rooms are simple but carefully done: tall windows, soft linen, a small velvet armchair that became my reading spot after long walks. The staff leave out fresh pastries in the morning and are quick with recommendations for places that are not on the tourist trail. On the first night they pointed us to a basement wine bar where the tapas were small, the Moravian wine was excellent, and the conversation went late.

The real prize was the timing. Snow kept the tour groups thinned out, so we crossed an almost empty Charles Bridge at dawn, watched snowfall settle on the castle spires, and queued for ten minutes at the Old Town Hall tower. The only trade-off is the cold — pack proper boots and a coat, because the cobblestones are merciless in ice.
